Cives Steel Company owns its own structural engineering operation, Cives Engineering Corporation, which is available to support the clients of Cives Steel Company on construction projects in which Cives Steel Company participates. All design is supervised and approved by our Chief Engineer Larry S. Muir, P.E., President, Cives Engineering Corporation. Mr. Muir is an active participant in several AISC, ASCE, and AWS committees and subcommittees and is a member of RCSC. He has also authored or co-authored several technical papers on connection design.

In addition to our full-time staff, Cives Engineering proudly retains the consulting services of Dr. William A. Thornton, P.E. Dr. Thornton is an internationally renowned expert in the field of connection design and was employed as the Chief Engineer of Cives Steel Company for 25 years. He has also served as the Chairman of AISC's Manuals and Textbooks Committee for over 20 years, in the process, shaping the way steel is designed in America. In 1995 he received the T.R. Higgins Lecture Award, and in 2003 he received an AISC Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Thornton's commitment to providing a rational approach to connection design continues to be a guiding force at Cives Engineering.

Cives Engineering Corporation has many years of experience in main frame design, and can employ knowledge of design techniques, shop fabrication costs, and material costs to produce the most economical structures for our clients.

Cives Steel Company has approximately 70 Graduate Engineers within the Company. Of these, 15 are Registered Professional Engineers.
