R.M. Schahfer Generating Station Unit 14 & 15 FGD and Water Treatment Plant Project

Midwest Division was recently awarded a contract for the fabrication and delivery of approximately 1,200 tons of structural steel, miscellaneous steel and grating, including (17) over-dimensional shop assembled box trusses, to the NIPSCO Schahfer Generating Station Unit 14 and Unit 15 FGD and Water Treatment Plant Project located in Wheatfield, Indiana. Cives has agreed to shop assemble and deliver the (17) new 11’ wide by 8’ tall by up to 75’ long box trusses directly to an offsite general works contractor so that they may install the necessary piping prior to erection. The balance of the structural steel required by this project features many long spans and complex skewed connections, as well as, a precise delivery plan to be coordinated around existing facilities and multiple concurrent construction activities. Cives’ Midwest Division is extremely proud to once again have been given the opportunity to perform as part of the NIPSCO team.

COBO Center Arena - Phase IIIb

Midwest Division was recently awarded a contract for the fabrication of approximately 2,000 tons of structural steel, including (36) shop assembled trusses and roughly (150) tons of AESS framing, for the renovation of the COBO Center Arena in downtown Detroit, Michigan. Not only does this project require an aggressive fabrication schedule in order to achieve owner commitments toward future convention events, but it also poses the unique challenge of requiring significant amounts of new steel to safely and efficiently connect directly to the existing structure. Cives' Midwest Division is excited about the opportunity to showcase both our fabrication capabilities and management skill in meeting the challenges of this uniquely aggressive project.

Chrysler New Paint Shop

Southern Division has been awarded a furnish only contract from Indiana Bridge - Midwest Steel, Inc. for a new paint shop at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan. IB-MWS has the primary contract, will be the erector and are handling the purchase of miscellaneous items and deck. Our scope consists of 5,000 tons of structural beams, columns, bracing and girts. In addition to our scope IB-MWS is buying 2,000 tons of shop assembled trusses from another fabricator. Southern Division is providing detailing for our structural items and the trusses. We have teamed up with Indiana Bridge and another fabricator and to support a very aggressive erection schedule that utilizes five erection cranes. Shipping logistics will be challenging to support erection starting late June and completing in September.

The Ohio State University Medical Center Cancer and Critical Care Tower

Midwest Division was recently awarded a contract for the fabrication and erection of structural steel, metal deck and metal stairs for the new twenty (20) story OSU Medical Center Cancer and Critical Care Tower Project in Columbus, Ohio. The 11,000 ton structure will be erected with two (2) tower cranes working intermittent first and second shift erection to meet the aggressive project schedule. Once complete, the new structure will serve to expand the campus’ current capacity for patient care and increase the overall patient experience by housing many critical medical components all under one roof. Shortly after Cives was awarded this work, OSU was named the recipient of a $100 million grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration to expand the current building plans to include a Radiation and Oncology Department within the overall project vision. Cives and the other members of the construction team, including Turner-Bovis, Thornton-Tomasetti and HOK Architects, have tackled the challenge of incorporating the requirements of this additional space into the structure mere weeks before the start of erection with the team goal of minimizing overall project schedule impacts while still delivering … a job well done.

Boston Red Sox New Spring Training Facility

Southern Division was recently awarded the Boston Red Sox New Spring Training Facility in Fort Myers, Florida. This LEEDS Certified project consists of an 11,000 seat capacity baseball stadium complete with a replica of Fenway’s famous Green Monster in left field, Clubhouse, Team Store, and an intricately designed Canopy covering most of the seating. Erection is schedule to begin in March and complete in October, allowing the Red Sox to begin Spring Training in the new facility in 2012.

Maynard H. Jackson, Jr. International Terminal

Southern Division recently completed the fabrication and erection of the new 3,800 ton International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The world’s busiest airport was able to maintain their incredible volume of incoming and outgoing flights during the duration of the construction. The structure consisted of long span trusses, complex perimeter framing, and highly scrutinized Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel. The AESS consisted of a radius Curtain Wall structure that supported glass panels, and a Pedestrian Bridge that spanned 140 feet from the parking garage to the new terminal. All portions of the structure were LEEDS Certified. Southern Division performed this work as a Joint Venture with American Custom Manufacturing based in Cleveland, TN. ACM fabricated and erected the complicated miscellaneous steel package, coordinating daily with Cives to ensure both scopes stayed ahead of schedule. Working with ACM allowed Cives to have 38 percent of the project contract to be performed by a Minority Business Enterprise.

Kemper County IGCC Power Project

Cives Mid-South will be fabricating approximately 14,000 tons of steel for the Kemper County IGCC Power Project near Dekalb, MS for Southern Company Services / Mississippi Power Company. This order is part of the $2.4 billion Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle plant which will produce clean energy in Mississippi.

Gotham Center

Gotham Center

Northern Division was awarded the contract for the Gotham Center Building B2 located in Long Island City, NY. It is a 6000-ton, 24 story office structure developed by Tishman Speyer.

Eleven Times Square

Eleven Times Square is located in New York City on Eighth Avenue, flanked by 41st and 42nd Streets. The 6700 ton, 40-story, 1.1 million square-foot tower offers offices with a minimum of 9'6" floor-to-ceiling glass and unobstructed views of the Hudson River, Times Square and Midtown Manhattan. The sophisticated design allows for prominent exterior building signage 600 feet above Times Square. The state-of-the-art tower also includes 53,000 square feet of retail space on three levels and 13,000 square feet of retail signage along 42nd Street and the corner of Eighth Avenue. This building is the first high rise in New York City to utilize concrete core construction that precedes the structural steel erection. Steel erection will be complete in 2008.Cives Steel Company was selected to fabricate and erect this new Manhattan landmark by the Construction Manager Plaza Construction, New York, New York. The developer of Eleven Times Square is SJP Properties located in Parsippany, New Jersey.
