UC Berkeley Gateway
Located along a prominent entryway at the northern edge of the UC Berkeley campus, the 365,000 square foot Gateway building will be the home of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS), the first new college at UC Berkeley in 50 years. Serving as Executive Architect, Gensler collaborated with Weiss/Manfredi and Magnusson Klemencic Associates to realize this S-shaped structure with a capacity of over 1,300 faculty, students, researchers, and staff. In addition to the fabrication complexities associated with the multitude of architecturally exposed pipe columns and elliptical slab edges contained within the project, Cives worked extensively with steel suppliers throughout the country to source raw materials from those suppliers most dedicated to minimizing their environmental impact. With the topping out of the main structure completed in June 2024, the project is on schedule to open in time for the 2025-2026 academic year.
